Do I need an EPC to rent my property?
If you're planning to rent your property, you are required to have a current and valid Energy Performance Certificate with a minimum grade of E. You won't be able to legally rent your property without this, unless you have a government approved exemption.
How long is an EPC valid for?
Energy Performance Certificates are valid for 10 years from the date of issue.
Have I already got an EPC?
If you think you may already have a valid EPC and want to check, you can visit the Energy Performance of Buildings Register, which is open to the public domain. You can access and search the register, at: https://www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate
Are there any benefits of getting an EPC?
An Energy Performance Certificate helps you understand where you can make energy savings in your property by following the recommendations and benchmarks for performance that are listed in the EPC.
Can my property fail an EPC inspection?
There are no minimum requirements, for a private owner/occupier, that guide a pass or fail. Your property will simply be graded on all aspects of its efficiency.
